Barenbrug HGT Bluegrass on a soccer field. Seeded with Brillion till-n-seed. Z-Spray

today is a November 13th 2016 this is a field soccer field here we planted berenberg HGT bluegrass a little over a year ago in August of 15 basically what we did is sprayed roundup on it and then we came in with a brilliant tilling seed about five days later and just kind of went over this twice in two directions kind of give you an update here's a goal area you know it's starting to wear thin it's a lot better shape than some of the other fields I don't know if you can see there behind the sign there's a some bare dirt of the older surface pros and cons I can't really say there's any cons is not as dark as a green so in the springtime you really can see the difference this has more of a lighter green color compared to some of the other varieties but it greens up about two weeks ahead of time so here in early spring when it's cool and the kids want to get out here and play it's a great great variety here for central Indiana this has been a pretty good season grow season we air fight it a week ago it was just a ground driven air fire it was pretty dry out this fall and it's a pretty good grass I can't say hang bad about it you know it's not as dark as green so if you're going for that super dark green look and you know maybe spring Greenup is not important or maybe you don't have the traffic to tolerate you know the heavy play you might want to choose a different variety but if you if you have a lot of play this is just a rec field I mean it's an ice rink field but it's got good drainage so they're swells all between every field they're pretty flat there's some dips here and there they moan with a zero turn about two inches just because that's about as short as a zero turn will go it's a ferris and they got suspension on them they scalp you probably got a little shorter if you had some real mowers or you had a little bit better of a sports turf but yeah I mean this got practiced on every day after school we did try to educate them on you know not to beat up the goals during practice and use different areas but you know they played on them every week in multiple games day in and day out it's done real well another thing you'll notice you don't really see any pale yellow looking areas it's been kind of a dry fall and you'll notice here the rust and just some paler looking yellows like it's a little deficient nitrogen I don't on this field here didn't receive hardly near as much play it's kind of reserved but you can just see the the splotchiness you know you don't notice it as much on that field there and don't know if that's a little bit more efficient use of nitrogen or it doesn't require as much I'm not the scientist I just use it and sell it and but anyways thought I'd give a quick update anybody interested in berenberg HGT bluegrass we had germination Oh about five days it started to come up slowly it's not a hundred percent HGT in that bag so what we saw was a little bit of grass starting to come up with irrigation about five just about a little under a week and it took about a month for it to grow in about thirty days and after about thirty days we had a pretty much a hundred percent stand could you have played on it probably this field probably not we didn't play on it that fall if you really were aggressive and you did light applications of some nitrogen and grew it in pretty aggressive with some topdressing maybe you probably could play on it in 30 days I know guys are kind of bragging how they can renovate a field and play in 30 days so yes you could probably have played on it would you want to put pro athletes on it it'd be a tough call high school these little kids probably wouldn't hurt it but anyways just a quick update and I know they make a mix with the are PR and the turf blue HGT definitely definitely think you could turn it around with proper irrigation of fertilization and play on that I've done a lot of that grass too I just don't think it tolerates the you know the summer heat drought and but if you live in a area cooler climate you'd be fine we marked all the irrigation heads have any questions like to help you out
