the Supreme Court cleared the way for the Trump administration to use Defense Department money to build the wall but a portion of the wall slated for Arizona is off the table for now good evening I’m Angelique Lizardi and I’m John overall Pentagon officials say they just don’t have enough money to construct a wall on some parts of the us-mexico border the lack of funds is bringing projects in the Yuma and Tucson sectors to a screeching halt news for Tucson Julia Shaheed as the story is new at five Tucson Sector project four would put up barriers in this area which starts about nine miles east of the Nogales port of entry but government officials say right now there’s not enough money to see it through in a recent court filing officials right it was determined that there are insufficient contract savings to undertake three additional section 284 projects they continue to say quote therefore the Department of Defense has decided not to pursue Yuma sector projects four and five and Tucson Sector project four at this time the delay comes more than one month after the Supreme Court allowed the President to tap into billions in defense funds for wall construction a decision the president called a quote big win for border security and the rule of law but Democrats call the SCOTUS decision a bad move as it diverted funds away from some military projects you know I know firsthand from you know having spoken to the commander’s at the bases where this impact that’s going to happen that it is going to impact our mission olia Shahid news for Tucson news
