Crystal Dunn – Courage On And Off The Field – Celebrating Soccer

hi I'm crystal Dunn midfielder for the North Carolina courage and I love to celebrate soccer one of my earliest achievements I would say was being a part of my u-17 World Cup team I had recently gotten cut from the 16s and was really upset I remember crying to my mom and just didn't think you know I was I was a good player and I was chosen beyond the the 17 World Cup roster which is very odd because I got cut from the younger team but I and ended up making the older roster and to me that was just a weight off my shoulder I felt like I got my confidence back and I think that's really important especially as a younger player I love team camaraderie because I personally feel like it's important for each member of the team to feel valued you know I as a teammate always try to do my best going up to players and just telling them hey good training today or good game and just giving that constant feedback because I think for me I would want that as a player and I think that's what builds camaraderie is just the understanding that everyone's valuable and everyone's needed the best advice I was given was definitely in college when I was playing a lot of positions as I am still doing currently but I remember Anson telling me that you know you have to take risks you have to be who you are and you know don't be afraid to make a bad pass or don't be afraid to fail because ultimately this game comes down to moments and it's not gonna happen if you are afraid of taking those chances and and playing in fear and I think that was the best advice and I hold that dear to my heart till this day because the way I play is high risk and high rewards at times and I think you know I may be stopped once or twice but I think it's that ongoing resilient nough Stanton instilled in me that has allowed me to succeed in my career I know it's not all about winning championships but when I am a part of a championship team I just I love it you know it reminds me of why I played this game and and even though winning doesn't necessarily mean you're the best player or the best team it means that collectively you were able to achieve something great and I think being a part of this team especially you know day in and day out we we fight we push each other to be at our best and I think especially last season holding up that trophy at the end of the year just meant our work paid off you know pushing each other and beating each other up at times really is how we were able to get to that final stage
