  1. Idk why people are laughing? This is the more serious, pivotal moment that ties their two stories together.

  2. They are laughing bc its a black cast. Its not just color its culture. Example everyone black from a home knows the smell of a hotcomb… However not anyone whitr would kno that smell on a Sundayday am. See us blacks have been in this position b4 and can feel the cultural attachment too troy. Just like how troy always makes Jokes wit bano and the way he does lynes. It's all just culture.

  3. alot of people go to humor in situations that are intense this scene was the same way in the movie and it played a MORE POWERFUL stance because people KNOW its not a comedy and you really want to focus and not miss anything.

  4. if the black community had 15000 fathers like this they would have done something miraculous

  5. An old school approach from James Earl Jones made you forget ya groan. Denzel Washington put some humor in it.

  6. For those who asked why the audience are laughing?
The answer is cruel but true .. with every generation people get more silly and pointless , the social mind changed , these kind of arguments and life lessons used to mean something in those days , think about it .. same script , even more talented actors, and it changed suddenly from being dramatic to be funny..
why ? Cuz people aren’t the same .. people became less meaningful with time passing.

  7. they laughing cause they heard it before. its mad relateable. i guess thats not a word but the ubdertone is there. we all know theres pain and some eskewed version of love in this scene but its delivered by zel in a SLIGHTLY comical way. both denzel and james earl jones versions are great in their own way

  8. I never knew this was on Broadway

I mean the same actors portraying the same characters in the movie adaptation

That's rare, at least as far as i know
