How to Build a Wrought Iron Fence : Tack Metal Together on A Wrought Iron Fence

On behalf of Expert Village, I’m Terry, and
I’m here to tell you today about building a wrought iron fence. Once we get our layout
we want to start tacking together. We only tack, you don’t weld. Heat draws and it will
draw your project out of square. So you want to get every point tacked down where nothing
moves before you start your first weld. Here I’m going to be using a mig welder, with argon
gas, and a shield. Argon gas chills the oxygen which causes porosity in your weld. When I’m
tacking the picketts, I just tack one corner. I don’t tack two corners, I tack one corner.
That way if I have to rack it one way or the other to get it into square, then there’s
enough material there to move. It’s square, and that’s how you tack it.
