Lightning strikes tree, metal fence carries charge to Wilbraham home causing fire damage


ANC: A LIGHTNING STRIKE STARTED A FIRE THAT DAMAGED A HOUSE IN WILBRAHAM LATE THIS AFTERNOON. WILBRAHAM FIRE CAPTAIN DANIEL CORLISS TOLD 22NEWS LIGHTNIGHT STRUCK A TREE NEXT TO CHAIN LINK FENCE AT 628 SPRINGFIELD STREET JUST BEFORE 4:30 TODAY. CAPTAIN CORLISS SAID THE METAL FINCE CARRIED THE CHARGE TO THE HOUSE, DAMAGING THE VINYL SIDING AND THE WOOD BEHIND IT FROM THE GROUND TO THE ATTIC. ONE FIREFIGHTER SUFFERED A LEG INJURY, BUT HE’LL BE OKAY. THE FAMILY WILL BE ABLE TO STAY THERE TONIGHT, BUT THERE IS ONE COMPLICATION; CAPTAIN CORLISS SAID THE HOUSE HAD RECENTLY BEEN SOLD.
