IT HAPPENED JUST ABOUT A HALF HOUR AGO NEAR 32ND AVENUE SOUTH IN FARGO. THAT’S WHERE VALLEY NEWS TEAM’S “ASHLEY BISHOP” JOINS US LIVE FROM THE SCENE WITH MORE. ASHLEY? FARGO POLICE SAY IT’S LIKE THIS EVERY YEAR…THE FIRST SIGN OF SAY IT’S LIKE THIS EVERY YEAR…THE FIRST SIGN OF WINTER CATCHES DRIVERS OFF GUARD. AS BUSY AS POLICE WERE THIS MORNING…TOW TRUCK DRIVERS WERE JUST AS BUSY. ONE TOW COMPANY SAYS THEIR BUSINESS DOUBLED! “WE PRETTY MUCH COULDN’T ANSWER THE PHONES FAST ENOUGH. IT WAS A VARIETY OF IT WAS A VARIETY OF PROBLEMS A LOT OF PEOPLE FINDING PROBLEMS WITH TRACTION SLIDING OFF INTO THE DITCH EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NOT A LOT OF SNOW IN THE DITCHES YET,” AGGRESSIVE TOWING & RECOVERY MANAGER THOMAS LINDSETH SAYS THEY SAY ABOUT 35 CALLS DURING THE MORNING…THEY TYPICALLY SEE 15. THEY SAY ALOT OF PEOPLE WERE GOING TO FAST FOR THE CONDITIONS AND RESPONDED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE HITTING CURBS. LINDSETH EXPLAINS THEY WERE PREPARED AND HAD CREWS READY FOR THE INFLUX OF CALLS DURING THE FIRST SNOW FALL. “AFTER THE FIRST ONE EASING INTO THE SECOND ONE PEOPLE GET THEIR FEET BACK UNDER THEM AND GET BETTER FROM THERE,” NORTH DAKOTA AND MINNESOTA HIGHWAY PATROLS SAY THEY HAD ISSUES TODAY AS WELL. THEY SAY DRIVERS ARE GOING TOO FAST FOR THE CONDITIONS AND NOT GIVING ENOUGH SPACE FOR THE CAR AHEAD OF THEM. ANOTHER REMINDER FOR DRIVERS IS TURN ON THEIR HEADLIGHTS… ESPECIALLY DURING CONDITIONS LIKE THIS MORNING, WITH BLOWING SNOW. THE SKIES HAVE CLEARED NOW… BUT IT’S GETTING COLD!!
