Visualizing the Code- Setback

Welcome to the City of Anaheim’s video series,
Visualizing the Code What’s a Setback?
A setback is the distance between a structure and a property line. It may also be measured
from a private road easement or the ultimate right of way if the street is expected to
be widened. Let’s look at an example. Every residential property has required front, side
and rear setbacks. In this case, the distance from the property line to the imaginary line
that delineates the yard area is the setback. Before you consider adding on to your home,
call to speak with a planner to find out more about your setback requirements and check
out our other videos in the Visualizing the Code video series.
